You might already have a cleanser you love. Or you might be replacing several products at once. Either way, a skin care routine kit should make choosing easier.

Our three sets start with the same four products and bring them together in different combinations. The Night Duo pairs serum with night gel. The 3-Step Kit includes cleanser, day cream and night gel. The Complete Regimen adds the serum to make the full set of four.

Use the serum before the night gel, following each product’s directions. You’ll still need your own cleanser; the duo doesn’t include one. It’s the smallest of the three sets, so it’s a straightforward choice when those are the two bottles you want.

The Barrier Repair 3-Step Kit contains Soothing Dual Cleanser, Revitalizing Day Cream and Overnight Repair Gel. It gives you a cleanser and separate morning and evening moisturizers.

There’s no serum in this set. If you already have one you like, or prefer to leave serum out of your routine, you can buy the other three products together. The day cream and night gel are for different parts of the day; they don’t need to become two moisturizer layers in the same sitting.

The Complete Glow & Repair Regimen includes all four products: cleanser, serum, day cream and night gel. Already happy with your serum? The three-step kit leaves it out.

With the full set, the serum goes before your chosen moisturizer. The day cream belongs in the morning routine and the night gel in the evening. Sunscreen is still separate; none of these three kits includes it.

These are the places the products occupy, rather than a requirement to use every bottle twice a day. Follow the individual directions, and keep any prescribed skincare in the routine your clinician has given you.

The sets share products. Buying the Night Duo and Complete Regimen together gives you two serums and two night gels. Combining the 3-Step Kit with the Complete Regimen duplicates the cleanser, day cream and night gel.

That’s fine if you want spare bottles. For one everyday routine, though, start with the set closest to what you need. If you only want one product, you can buy it individually.

Start with what you’re running out of. If your cleanser is nearly finished but there’s plenty of serum left, the three-step set may be the more useful combination. If only your evening products need replacing, look at the duo.

For price, use the current sizes and prices on the store pages. Count the products you’d otherwise buy individually. An extra item you won’t use doesn’t add value just because it comes in the box.

For a gift, a familiar product or a set someone has asked for is a better starting point than guessing from a kit name. The ingredient lists for the included products matter just as much as they would for an individual purchase.
